A referral pathway for dentists and physicians. We aim to make conservative jaw and musculoskeletal care easy to refer to, and to communicate clearly about what we find.
Referring TMJ and jaw concerns
Appropriate presentations
- Jaw pain, tenderness or aching, including pain in front of the ear
- Clicking, popping or grating sounds with pain, catching or locking
- Limited, deviating or uncomfortable mouth opening
- Jaw or facial muscle tightness, tiredness on chewing, or clenching-related pain
- Headaches or neck pain accompanying jaw symptoms
What our assessment covers
- History of the jaw, neck and dental context you have already assessed
- Examination of TMJ movement, the jaw muscles (masseter, temporalis, pterygoid) and the cervical spine
- Assessment of posture and how the jaw and neck behave together
- Screening for findings that need your care or another referral rather than chiropractic care
We do not provide dental or orthodontic treatment and do not present ourselves as TMJ specialists. Where bite, tooth or appliance factors are involved, we co-manage with you and send our findings back.
Referring musculoskeletal concerns
Appropriate presentations
- Low back pain and sciatica, including recurrent or long-standing presentations
- Neck pain, cervicogenic or tension-type headaches
- Musculoskeletal pain where conservative care is appropriate alongside your management
- Patients seeking conservative care who would benefit from a coordinated plan
What our assessment covers
- History and physical, orthopedic, movement and, where indicated, neurological examination
- Screening for red flags with prompt referral back when findings are outside chiropractic scope
- A plain-language explanation of findings and an individualized plan of care
- Reassessment of progress against agreed goals, with communication back to you where useful
Care is conservative and assessment-based. We do not promise specific outcomes, fixed treatment counts or timelines, and we refer back when a concern requires medical or specialist management.
How to Refer a Patient
- Print our referral form, complete the details you already hold and send it by email or fax. Please do not send detailed clinical records by ordinary email — call us first and we will arrange a secure method.
- Referring is not required for a patient to be seen: in Ontario patients can book directly with a chiropractor.
- Patients book their own appointment. If you need confirmation that a referral was received, call us — we do not publish a guaranteed response time.
Communication & Consent
When it is clinically appropriate and with the patient's consent, we communicate with the referring provider — sharing what was assessed, what was found and how we plan to proceed, and asking the same of you where it helps. Nothing is shared without the patient's agreement. If a concern sits outside chiropractic scope, we tell the patient and refer back rather than continuing care we cannot help with.
